The Power of Breathing: A Pathway to Happiness

Conscious breathing - a practice that not only helps us cope with stress and anxiety

In our fast-paced and stressful world, it’s easy to overlook the simple yet effective techniques that can improve our overall well-being. One such technique is conscious breathing – a practice that not only helps us cope with stress and anxiety but also plays a significant role in boosting our happiness. Breathing isn’t only essential to keep us alive, it also impacts our emotions, attention, and how our brains process the world around us.

Therefore during #internationalhappinessmonth make it your goal to learn to optimise the most powerful free tool at your disposal, your breath. As it can have a significant impact on your health, happiness, and wellbeing.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND BREATHING AND HAPPINESS

The Relaxation Response

When we take slow, deep breaths, we activate our body’s relaxation response. This response triggers a shift from the sympathetic nervous system, responsible for our body’s stress response, to the parasympathetic nervous system. Consequently, this shift leads to decreased heart rate, reduced blood pressure, and an overall sense of calmness.

Boosting Mood through Oxygenation

Deep breathing techniques allow an increased flow of oxygen to reach our brain, leading to enhanced cognitive function and improved mood. The additional oxygen lowers the levels of stress hormones while increasing the feel-good neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins. As a result, we experience a natural mood lift and an increased sense of happiness.

INCORPORATE BREATHWORK INTO DAILY LIFE
